Yes, it is time to announce our existence to the group that started the whole shebang. NYTEN (New York Technology Educators Network) is a group that started in much the same vein as NY Tech Ed. It is primarily a group of Tech Directors, Coordinators and Educators who seek to network and learn from each other. Over time, the needs of the group dictated a shift to address many of the issues concerning Tech Administrators as opposed to the Educators.
A few of us have spoken over the years about organizing the educators in to a mirror group, after a few trial runs with different venues Jesse Lubinsky, Sabrina Rich and myself (Jennifer Cronk) became determined to get this up and running. After a meeting on Feb 1st we had our format and decided to run with it. Here our declaration to NYTEN:

I am writing to officially announce the birth of NY Tech Ed. This is a natural outcropping of the NYTEN format for Technology Educators that desire a forum to discuss, collaborate and learn from each other. Our desire is to make it as easy as possible for local Tech Ed professionals to network and learn from each other. NYTEN is a valuable resource but is usually focused on Director/Coordinator issues and not on practical application in the Lab and/or classroom. Members of NYTEN who wish to join are more than welcome, as there are many members of NYTEN who fill both the Tech Admin and Technology Educator roles. Please forward this email to your Ed Tech staff if you are strictly a Tech Administrator. You are however, welcome to attend any event we host if it interests you.
As many of you know, it can be difficult for teachers to get time to leave their building for a ½ day meeting. Hence, we will primarily use Google Hangouts for synchronous communications and a Google Group and Twitter (@nyteched, #nyteched) for asynchronous communication. All of these avenues are embedded on our website.
Our first Hangout is planned for March 13th at 12pm, the hangout is on Practical Strategies in using Google Docs in the class. I will discuss protocols that I put in place with my English classes, file management and then later how I systemically approached deployment of these protocols to all 9th Grade and 10 Grade classes at Clarkstown High School South. I will invite one of our Assistant Principals and another educator from my District who uses different techniques for using Google Docs in his class
